Bookish Events

With the Holidays coming up and the first snowfall of the year wreaking havoc on travel, Bookish Events are probably far from your mind. But the list below should change all that, and get you itching to dive back into the NYC literary scene. See what’s happening around town with Bookish Events: December.

Monday, December 2nd

Jeanette Winterson

With the impending snow and slush we’ve been promised tonight, I know most of us would much rather be curled up at home with a blanket and a glass of wine. But I’m here to tell you — don’t do it. Just don’t. Instead, brave the weather. Put your snow boots on, and go see Jeanette Winterson. I’ve been to two of her readings in the past, and she is brilliant, hilarious, unbelievably engaging. Hear her read from her new book Frankissstein tonight!

Tuesday, December 3rd

WNBC-NYC Holiday Book Drive and Gift Wrapping Party

It’s the season of giving so get in the Holiday spirit by donating a book for this annual book drive. WNBA-NYC is partnering with the Children’s Book Council to bring books into the hands of NYC school children. We’re particularly looking for Children’s, Middle Grade, Young Adult and Spanish Language books. And if you don’t have any books you can part with, come help us wrap-up the books instead! You’ll be rewarded with snacks and wine.

Saturday, December 7th

Ladies Who Brunch: The Dutch House

The Ladies are at it again with their bi-monthly book club. Join them for a meal and good conversation on The Dutch House. Written by NY Times best-selling author, Ann Pratchett, this historical novel is set at the end of WWII and follows two outcast siblings through five decades.

André Aciman: Introduced and interviewed by Parul Sehgal

Aciman, like Jeanette Winterson is a pleasure to see live. Quick on his feet, wry, and open, Aciman will be reading from his new novel: Find Me. A sequel to his best-selling work Call Me By Your Name, Find Me continues the tale of an older Elio and Oliver.

Sunday, December 22nd

Evil Hour Evening Reading

Named after a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel, this reading series likes to showcase writers with diverse backgrounds. All the pieces center on a single theme — in this case “escape.” The performers will include: Shenequa Golding, JB Roté, Quincy Flowers, and Tod Ashley.

Don’t forget to sign up for the next WNBA-NYC event — the Holiday Gift Wrapping Party here!
