Bookish Events: November Edition, Part 2

Bookish EventsAs promised, here are my top picks for Bookish Events happening in the latter half of November.

Tuesday, November 13th

National Book Awards Reading 2018

Every year, on the eve of the National Book Awards Ceremony, the new school hosts a reading with the finalists. While spots for this year’s reading have already sold out, you can still catch a live stream of the event here. I know I’ll be using the stream to scout out new books for my reading list.

Wednesday, November 14th

National Book Awards Ceremony

Awards season – is there anything quite like it? While this may not be the Oscars, the glitz and glamor are all still here. This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Nick Offerman. If you, like me, are an enormous fan of both Offerman and books, you can catch the livestream here.

Tor Books presents #FearlessWomen

If award season isn’t your scene, you might want to check out this panel. #FearlessWomen is Tor’s initiative “to highlight female characters and authors who are “creating new blockbuster worlds and re-shaping our own.’” The panel will feature Tor authors: S.L. Huang, K. Arsenault Rivera, and Seth Dickinson. It will be moderated by Publishing Director, Margot Atwell.

Friday, November 16th – Sunday, November 18th

Goddard Riverside Book Fair

Let’s admit it, a book habit can be expensive. Mine must run me at least $100 a month. If you’re looking to mitigate some of that damage, it’s worth checking out the Goddard Riverside Book Fair. There, you can get new books at 50% off cover price!

Thursday, November 29th

2018 Holiday Book Drive and Gift Wrapping Party

Help the WNBA, CBC, and YPG gift wrap book donations that will go to the nonprofit, Behind the Book. Behind the book will deliver the donations to New York City Public Schools. N.K. Jemisin: How Long Till Black Future Month

A conversation and book signing with N.K. Jemisin, a rising star in fantasy and science-fiction. A Hugo award winner, this is Jemisin’s first collection of short stories. “In these stories, Jemisin sharply examines modern society, infusing magic into the mundane, and drawing deft parallels in the fantasy realms of her imagination.”
