“Join hosts Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, Ayad Akhtar, Jennifer Finney Boylan, Jennifer Egan, James Hannaham, Crystal Hana Kim, Morgan Jerkins, Dinaw Mengestu, and Fatima Shaik in raising a glass to our favorite books, published works, and memories of 2019, as well as resolutions for 2020.” If that star studded cast of hosts isn’t enough to convince you, PEN also wants to celebrate your 2019 achievements, and is compiling a list of published books from event attendees! Kill Sister Kill – Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

Lady Vengeance

It may not be a Bookish event, but I had to sneak this one in. Part of the Kill Sister Kill series hosted by Nitehawk Cinemas, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance features one of the most compelling and bad-ass female characters I’ve ever seen on screen. A must see for any Kill Bill fans out there, Nitehawk will play this movie at a late night showing. So any of our more ambitious readers out there could theoretically go to the PEN party and then make their way to this showing after. Not that ambitious? Don’t worry Nitehawk has a whole year of killer women planned.

The Ladies Who Brunch: Romance Reads

There’s still time to sign up for the next meeting of The Ladies Who Brunch bookclub. And with two light reads for this month’s picks, there’s even time to finish the books on time. Members will be reading Candace Bushnell’s Is There Still Sex in the City? and Nancy Thayer’s Let It Snow. Join The Ladies for a discussion on this ever popular genre and a comparison of the two books.
