UN Women Co-Sponsored Events during the 56th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (27 Feb – 9 Mar).
The theme of the 56th Session on the Status of Women was the empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, sustainable development, and current challenges.
Facts:
- Rural women constitute one-fourth of the world’s population.
- If rural women had equal access to productive resources, agricultural yields would rise and there would be 100 million to 150 million fewer hungry people.
