HOLIDAY WRITING CHALLENGE

Holiday Writing ChallengeThis year, for the first time ever, the WNBA-NYC is hosting a Holiday Writing Challenge! If you’re struggling with a larger work, if you’ve never written before, or if you just want to exercise your writing muscles, this challenge is for you!

All theentries will be reviewed by 3 members of the NYC board (bribes can be sent my way … just kidding). Our top three picks will be anonymously featured on this blog! Members will then vote on their favorite submission to decide a final winner. The writer of the winning post will receive a free copy ofWomen in the Literary Landscapeand reading time at our Annual Spring Brunch!

The rules for submission follow:

  1. You must be a WNBA member to submit an entry, and your submission must be an original piece no longer than 400 words.
  2. You must incorporate at least one of the following quotes from a Holiday movie into your submission:
    1. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. (Independence Day)
    2. Ya filthy animal. (Home Alone)
    3. It came without ribbons. (How the Grinch Stole Christmas, 1966)
    4. Oh look another glorious morning. (Hocus Pocus)
    5. Yippee-ki-yay. (Die Hard)
  3. All submissions should be sent to blog@wnba-nyc.org. We will accept entries received until Monday, December 17th.
  4. Please ensure all submissions are formatted with Times New Roman, font size 12, and are double spaced.

Beyond that there are no rules, so get creative! Submit a Christmas haiku, a diatribe on the hypocrisy of Thanksgiving, or a vignette honoring veterans. The choice is yours to make, and the possibilities are endless.

Feel free to post any questions you have in the comments section below or to email them to blog@wnba-nyc.org. I’m looking forward to reading your pieces!
