Tis the Season!! After a few year’s hiatus, the Holiday Gift Wrapping Event
returned this year on November 13, 2024! This event marks the beginning of the
Holiday Season for the WNBA-NYC Chapter.
As part of our UN commitment as an NGO organization, the WNBA-NYC
Chapter donated and wrapped children’s books to give to charity this holiday
season.
We gathered at Children’s Book Council with the Early Career Committee
group to wrap books for middle grade readers, young adult readers, picture books,
and Spanish language books for those in need. To add to the cause, attendees were
encouraged to donate books from these categories.
Snacks, drinks, and easy conversation provided a lighthearted atmosphere
for about 30 participants while books were being wrapped. Scissors, tape, labels,
and wrapping paper filled the five tables in the main space. We had to clean up as
we went along because the space was small, yet powerful.
The charities that received the wrapped books are located in upstate New
York. Grassroots Givers, a literacy nonprofit committed to providing access to
books for every family, and Community Caregivers, a volunteer-focused nonprofit
with the mission to help neighbors within the community maintain independence.
