BookMark This! National Novel Writing Month

NaNoWriMo

We are one week in to National Novel Writing Month. How many words have you put down on paper? If you are closer to zero than 50,000 then the official website for National Novel Writing Month is a great place to help you get you over the hump.

It’s a great creative exercise for established writers or anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel. This non-profit believes “writing makes the world a more creative, vibrant place.” This is NaNoWriMo’s 15th year, and they expect an historic 500,000 participants worldwide. To keep participants writing, NaNoWriMo offers support from an incredible line-up of authors with letters full of encouragement and wisdom. Pep Talkers include James Patterson, Lev Grossman, and Rainbow Rowell, who wrote the first draft of her critically-acclaimed YA novel Fangirl during NaNoWriMo 2012.

If any of our WNBA-NYC members are participating in this year’s NaNoWriMo, let us know in the comments so we can cheer you on.

Good luck and write on!

The Women’s National Book Association was founded in 1917 by female booksellers who weren’t allowed in the men’s organizations. Nearly 100 years later, the WNBA is still supporting women in the book industry through literary events, networking, literacy projects, workshops, open mic nights, book clubs, and many other entertaining programs throughout the season!
