This week in NYC, the PEN American Center is hosting the annual PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature. According to the PEN website, “Writers from around the world convene in New York City to celebrate the power of the written word in action.” The festival runs from April 30th to May 6th, and offers a diverse array of events. One interesting event on Wednesday, May 2, is The Kronos Quartet: Exit Strategies, which tries to answer the question, “can literature and music overlap and enhance one another?” On Thursday, May 3, you may be interested in attending the Translation Slam, in which renowned translators duel to the translation death. Or, on Friday, May 4, art enthusiasts may want to take A Literary Safari, which is described as “an expedition to observe artists in their natural habitat.” These, and many other exciting events will be taking place all week. For more information on the schedule, see their 2012 Festival Program.
