Letter from the President: WNBA-NYC Changes and Centennial Celebrations

May 10, 2016

Dear WNBA Community,

It is hard to believe that I have just completed two terms as the WNBA-NYC President. It has been such a rewarding and life enriching experience and I am so proud of all that we have accomplished together. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the NYC executive board members, committee chairs, volunteers and members for your dedication to the goals of the organization and for all of the work you have done. It is quite remarkable really!

Hannah Bennett

As you know, Hannah Bennett was recently elected as the new WNBA-NYC President and I am looking forward to seeing how the organization grows under her care. Hannah is the Managing Editor at RosettaBooks, a leading independent publisher of ebooks and print nonfiction and she brings a wealth of experience, creativity and excitement to the position. Please join me in warmly welcoming her. Hannah will be communicating with members via the blog so be sure to sign up to receive notices of new posts by putting in your email address into the box to the right of this post under the image that says “Subscribe to Blog Via Email”. She can also be reached at President@WNBA-NYC.org if you would like to contact her directly.

As for me, I will be inducted as the National WNBA President in June at our annual meeting which will take place in San Francisco this year. The majority of my term will be spent preparing for our Centennial Celebrations in October of 2017 as well as working to bring the WNBA successfully into the next century. It is a very exciting time for us and we do hope that you will join us at our events and by volunteering and participating in our celebrations.

Thank you all again for our support and I am looking forward to working with you all in my new position.

With best regards,

About Blog Editor

The Women’s National Book Association was founded in 1917 by female booksellers who weren’t allowed in the men’s organizations. Nearly 100 years later, the WNBA is still supporting women in the book industry through literary events, networking, literacy projects, workshops, open mic nights, book clubs, and many other entertaining programs throughout the season!

  1. Jane,
I knew, all those years ago, that you would do a fantastic job as president of the New York chapter. I remember how shocked you were that you were being asked! You told me that you had thought for sure you’d done something wrong. Well, not only had you NOT done anything wrong, but you’ve done so much that is right. Thank you for being such an amazing leader of our WNBA chapter. Although I don’t often get the chance any more to participate, I’ve watched proudly from the sidelines, knowing you’re at the helm.

I know that Hannah Bennett will rise to the occasion and do a fantastic job, too. That’s just who she is. And WNBA National couldn’t be in better hands, my friend.
    Very fondly,
