Get ready for Christmas with a special holiday display of Charles Dickens’prompt copy of A Christmas Carol, from which he gave his public readings; a book with a Christmas theme by T.S. Eliot; Christmas greetings by James Joyce, Sean O’Casey, E.E. Cummings, and Maurice Sendak; and a Christmas letter from Jack Kerouac to his future wife, Stella Sampas.

The Strand Bookstore will host “two contemporary authors who use humor to examine the pitfalls and foibles that mark all our lives.” Beth Lisick, author of Yokohama Threeway: And Other Small Shames, is an expert at shining light onto the nooks and crannies of her own personal history. She will be joined by Michael Ian Black, author of You’re Not Doing It Right, who is a fellow comedian and memoirist. Both will talk about the process and occasional terrors of turning real-life stories into writing.
