The Line King’s Library: Al Hirschfield at the New York Public Library

As if we needed another reason to make a trip to the New York Public Library, a new multimedia art exhibit called “The Line King’s Library,” honoring illustrator Al Hirschfield, opened this month and runs until January 4, 2014.
The exhibit is in the Donald & Mary Oenslager Gallery inside the NYPL for the Performing Arts building.
Not only does the show boast a widespread array of Hirschfield’s film posters and drawings, it also features a rare 1969 print of legendary dancerMartha Graham.

There’s a new bookstore on the block, and it’s here just in time for our favorite season. Celebrate the changing colors of the leaves and the onslaught of pumpkin-flavored everything with Terrace Books, the sister store of Brooklyn’s Community Bookstore. Ms. Patchett recently sat down with Publisher’s Weekly and talked about her friendship with Elizabeth Gilbert and Donna Tartt, the short story renaissance, and owning an independent bookstore.
