Member Monday: Neighborhood Lunch Recap

by Liberty Schauf

October’s Neighborhood Lunch was scrumptiously delicious in not only cuisine but in conversations as well. The Smorgas Chef at Scandinavian House on Park Avenue had a rustic feel mostly because of the massive birch tree in the middle of the dining room. Many WNBA-ers enjoyed the Swedish Meatballs, while others had soup, salad or sandwiches.

Conversations started out with the question, “So, what do you do?” but quickly led to, “What are you reading?” or “What is your favorite genre?” For a scintillating few moments, conversation drifted to online dating. Several of the young women shared their likes and dislikes about some of the more prevalent online dating sites. Then conversations moved back to books, book retailers and to National Reading Group Month Author Panel. The event is this Wednesday from 7pm – 9pm at the Strand Bookstore; don’t forget to RSVP.DSC04948

If you missed this month’s lunch, be sure not to miss the next one. It is a great way to meet other women in the industry and discuss some of our favorite things, namely books.

Here are a few more lunch pictures.

The Women’s National Book Association was founded in 1917 by female booksellers who weren’t allowed in the men’s organizations. Nearly 100 years later, the WNBA is still supporting women in the book industry through literary events, networking, literacy projects, workshops, open mic nights, book clubs, and many other entertaining programs throughout the season!
