Jane Kinney-Denning, President, WNBA-NYC

Dear WNBA Members and Friends,

It is hard to believe that the holidays are upon us already and that we have completed another successful fall season of programming. From our Annual Networking Party, the Brooklyn Book Festival, to an In-Conversation with Estelle Parsons, Lynn Sharon-Schwartz and Hilma Wolitzer, our stellar panel for National Reading Group Month, to an interesting and important panel on Women Writing about the Environment (see the blog for stories and photos), we covered a lot and expanded our presence in the NYC world of books. Thank you to all of the board members and volunteers who worked so hard to make these events successful. Congratulations to all.

As a reminder, our next event is our Holiday Party on Thursday, Dec. 10th at 6:30pm at the Antler Beer & Wine Dispensary downtown. I hope to see you all there. It is a wonderful time of year to gather and celebrate!

We are looking to fill two very important NYC Chapter board positions:

  • VP of Communications – Reports to the President. Oversee the communications and publicity activities for the chapter and make sure that all of our events are being publicized and covered in our various social media. This includes working with the Corresponding Secretary to make sure she has the materials she needs in a timely manner. The VP of Communications also supervises the blog and newsletter editor.
  • Corresponding Secretary – Works closely with VP of Communications and Membership Chair. Responsible for communications about chapter activities and events, including sending out emails to members (regularly/bi-monthly through the membership database), updating and managing communication schedules, building event and registration pages and helping to create flyers for events. Helps in updating the chapter website.

Please email me at president@wnba-nyc.orgif you are interested in joining the board as one of the above positions.

As we start to prepare for our 2017 Centennial Celebrations we are looking to have all of our board positions filled with an outstanding team. It is a very exciting time to be a part of the WNBA and I hope some of you will join us.

In closing, I would again like to thank you all for your support and hard work keeping our chapter vital and growing. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Holiday Party!

About Blog Editor

The Women’s National Book Association was founded in 1917 by female booksellers who weren’t allowed in the men’s organizations. Nearly 100 years later, the WNBA is still supporting women in the book industry through literary events, networking, literacy projects, workshops, open mic nights, book clubs, and many other entertaining programs throughout the season!
