Around Town: The Dorothy O. Helly Lecture

Even though it’s not Tuesday, we couldn’t resist posting this last minute Around Town feature to tell you about an amazing educational series based in New York. The Center for the Study of Women and Society has promoted feminist scholarship since 1977, as part of the City University of New York. According to their website, “The focus of the Center’s research agenda is the study of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class and nation in relationship to the experiences of women and men in societies around the world.” This agenda is partially expressed through their lecture series, which showcases CUNY and visiting scholars.

Next Monday, the CUNY Women’s Studies Certificate Program co-sponsors with the Center for the next event in their series, “Women Writing Women’s Lives: The Dorothy O. Helly Lecture.” Diane Jacobs will be discussing the lives of Abigail Adams, the second First Lady of the United States, and her two sisters. The women were outspoken, New England activists in a time of great change. The event takes place on Monday, October 29th from 4:00 – 5:30 PM at The Graduate Center (365 Fifth Avenue).
