Around Town: July Book Clubs

The mission of Book Boroughing is to bring readers up-to-date news on literary events in NYC. Through their Literary Event Calendar, visitors to the site can find information on upcoming readings, author events, and launch parties. In addition to their calendar, Book Boroughing also has a blog through which they highlight authors, bookstores, and other members of the NYC literary community. This week on their blog, Book Boroughing compiled a list of July Book Clubs, detailing a number of book clubs’ locations and meeting dates, as well as the books on their schedules for July. For anyone interested in attending a book club this month, this is an excellent resource!

Of particular interest to WNBA members might be the Bluestockings Feminist Book Club, reading Alison Bechdel in July. The details from the Book Boroughing post are as follows:

Book: Are You My Mother? by Alison Bechdel
The Feminist Book Club reads and discusses feminism. We make no claims to any particular feminist platform. Rather, we rely on feminism(s). We read theoretical texts, literature and primary works. All are welcome regardless of gender, political persuasion, and familiarity. We meet on the first Sunday each month. For more information, email feministbookclubnyc@gmail.com. This month’s book (available at Bluestockings) is Are You My Mother?: A Comic Drama by Alison Bechdel.
